Quick Start

After installing and activating Scotty, here’s how to get the most out of it.

1. Check the Overview

The Overview tab gives you a bird’s-eye view of your site:

  • Posts by status and type
  • Comments breakdown
  • Users by role
  • Database and disk size
  • Cron jobs count

2. Clean Your Database

Go to the Trash tab to see what can be cleaned:

  • Post revisions
  • Auto-drafts
  • Trashed posts and comments
  • Orphaned metadata
  • Expired transient options

Click the 🗑️ icon next to any item to delete all records, or expand the row to delete individual entries.

3. Check for Duplicates

The Duplicates tab scans for duplicate entries in:

  • Post meta
  • Comment meta
  • User meta
  • Term meta

4. Optimize Your Database

The Database tab shows all tables with their size, engine, and overhead. You can:

  • Optimize tables to reclaim wasted space
  • Reset auto-increment values

5. Harden Your Security

Go to WordPress → General to configure security settings:

  • Hide WordPress version
  • Disable XML-RPC
  • Hide login error details
  • Disable file editor

All settings take effect immediately when toggled. No save button needed.

6. Manage Cron Jobs

The Cron tab shows all scheduled WordPress cron jobs. You can:

  • Search by hook name
  • Sort by next run time
  • Execute a cron job immediately
  • Delete unnecessary cron jobs
