Quick Start
After installing and activating Scotty, here’s how to get the most out of it.
1. Check the Overview
The Overview tab gives you a bird’s-eye view of your site:
- Posts by status and type
- Comments breakdown
- Users by role
- Database and disk size
- Cron jobs count
2. Clean Your Database
Go to the Trash tab to see what can be cleaned:
- Post revisions
- Auto-drafts
- Trashed posts and comments
- Orphaned metadata
- Expired transient options
Click the 🗑️ icon next to any item to delete all records, or expand the row to delete individual entries.
3. Check for Duplicates
The Duplicates tab scans for duplicate entries in:
- Post meta
- Comment meta
- User meta
- Term meta
4. Optimize Your Database
The Database tab shows all tables with their size, engine, and overhead. You can:
- Optimize tables to reclaim wasted space
- Reset auto-increment values
5. Harden Your Security
Go to WordPress → General to configure security settings:
- Hide WordPress version
- Disable XML-RPC
- Hide login error details
- Disable file editor
All settings take effect immediately when toggled. No save button needed.
6. Manage Cron Jobs
The Cron tab shows all scheduled WordPress cron jobs. You can:
- Search by hook name
- Sort by next run time
- Execute a cron job immediately
- Delete unnecessary cron jobs
